Oh my goodness!! What a fast change. You must have flipped his switch to totally halter broke domestic horse! Just kidding.

He looks great - even pretty happy about the hug! I think he's going to be a wonderful horse!

Watching this makes me wonder what is wrong with Echo. My little horse visibly shakes when you touch his neck. He's far more scared than he should be. I give him treats, kisses and talk to him hours on end, yet we are are moving so slow. He still doesn't trust me. He's terrified when Brad approaches him, but will stand still now. He stands high headed with his nostrils flared staring at Brad. Brad gives him apples, pets his nose then we stand in front of him sideways (to take the pressure off him) and have a conversation about the day..yet Echo will not lower his guard. My goal is to have him where Anchor is next year so he can go off for formal training. Anchor was so calm when John touched him. Echo would never let anyone approach his side, that's why I put him in that little area behind the gate. Have you ever heard of a Mustang as nervous as Echo? I wonder if Echo has mental problems..that's OK..so do I. lol. We're a good match.

Arlene, I hate to admit it, but I have wondered a bit about the horses from his herd. Zaz didn't seem quite right to me. Inbreeding will cause mental problems. And I've known some registered horses that weren't terribly line bred that just didn't seem to be wired right, so even if it's not inbreeding I think some horses are just a little "off." Or it could even be a mineral imbalance. You could look into a magnesium supplement for him. I've heard that for some horses that works wonders. Remission is one I've used for other reasons, but it tastes bad. Do you have any professional trainers in your area that will travel to you to do an evaluation? Someone with a lot of horse experience might be able to pinpoint the problem.

Andrea,
Echo and I are really making progress now but it's been a lot harder than it should have been. There have been times I thought he'd never calm down. It's a good job I have him and not someone who wanted to hurry up and train him. I think thing's could have gone wrong for him quick.
I had a QH who would rear right up when being ridden for no good reason. I met this QH lady who told me his full brother was in a show and lost it..jumped into the audience. She told me about some other members of his family who were very bad. (My horse was sent to a trainer who hit him over the head and killed him). I wonder about Wildairo. I think we'll get there in the end it'll take longer though. I hope to send the boys to Dusty Roller who trained a horse for the extreme mustang makes over when they are both calm enough. I'll try the Mg suggestion. Thanks!
