No Time to Write

I was going to write words to go with all the pics, but I haven't found time.

One thing I did want to say is that I got his ancestral DNA results back from Texas A&M. Good thing I did it just for fun, I don't find it super believable. #1 fjord or Icelandic horse, #2 Paso breeds, #3 Belgian heavy draft. I looked up the results other curlies have gotten, and nobody else got Paso breeds, but there were a couple fjord/Icelandic results and quite a few with Belgian or other draft influence.

Still waiting for results on the PSSM and other tests. I'm actually kind of looking forward to finding out what color he is. At this point I'm pretty sure he's not black.

There's been some research into the origins of the American curly horse. From what I've found, the curly gene was first found in the US in mustang populations in the early 20th century - likely no connection to the Bashkir curly horse. I expect that "Belgian draft" and "Paso Fino" are really just mustang genes, where both drafts and Iberian origin horses are present - but Belgian and Paso seem too precise. Icelandic/Fjord seem unlikely. I've heard that these tests in dogs are highly inaccurate, don't know about the horse tests.

Fun stuff anyway.

I think the problem with all these tests so far is you can't be sure that what you are testing is atcually pure Belgian, and so on down the breeds, so then you get all mixed up when it comes to saying what mix a horse because pure is a rather dodgy thing. there are all those little accidents that maybe never make the pedigrees to take into account. :)

Colour is interesting. I'm guessing black buckskin, unless he really has Fjord in him in which case maybe he is black dun!

At nay rate, the main thing is that he is a dude and you love him. :)

I've heard that the tests in horses are pretty inaccurate also. I wouldn't have dine the test if I wasn't spending gift money and thinking it might help with the research the curly horse registry is doing. And it is kinda fun. :) What I really want are my genetic disease results. Slow process, but much cheaper through the ICHO.

I'm thinking he might be some sort of dun, just super dark so you can't see dun factor. His mama was a red dun and his dad was black. If the registry papers were right. I don't know if the curly registry is confused about dun like the AQHA is/was.

But yes, all that really matters is that he is amazing, he is healthy, and he is mine. :)

Kind of fun to see the results of tests, but I don't know anything about their accuracy. The weather sure has been beautiful for us to get out with our horses lately. You're going to have a lot of fun with him.
