I reckon he has a bit of draft in him and in my experience they do need that processing time, with new stuff especially, (about 3 seconds I reckon) and if you don't give it to them that's when they get upset. Like him, the draft crosses I've owned always want to be good and worry if they think they aren't getting it right. Once they know you and know the job they are good to go forever. You just have to give them the time they need as they learn, and once they trust that you'll give them that time, they relax and start thinking.
