She's getting ready to pick up a few horses for gentling and was wondering what people would be more likely to adopt.Andrea -Mustang Sagahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00576342393431178404noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14868403.post-30980035953666844342009-08-18T11:01:05.740-07:002009-08-18T11:01:05.740-07:00I'd choose a yearling gelding, if I had the ch...I'd choose a yearling gelding, if I had the choice.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00097764143684313092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14868403.post-5885558539700601482009-08-17T07:18:52.987-07:002009-08-17T07:18:52.987-07:00That's a really hard question and it really de...That's a really hard question and it really depends on what your goal with adopting is. If I just wanted to give a horse a home that didn't have much of a chance of being adopted at all, I'd probably take an older mare. But if I really wanted to take an animal and possibly prepare it for a life in captivity (either for myself of with the intention of preparing it for someone else), I'd take a younger horse. And I would be fine with either a gelding or a filly (or a young stallion - I've had no problems with my 2 year old mustang stallion).

And which I would actually do, given the chance, would depend on life circumstances at the moment.Karahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17723871612780795334noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14868403.post-65436715858813342612009-08-16T23:35:17.106-07:002009-08-16T23:35:17.106-07:00I like the idea of the older ones because with a y...I like the idea of the older ones because with a youngster (especially if it is your only horse and you don't have a big field to turn them out in to spend some time growing up) you have to wait so long to be able to climb on. I've also always liked mares without having any major heat issues, but I am enjoying my gelding as well so either really, depends on the horse.froglanderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05686654151450524098noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14868403.post-12535530210094376062009-08-16T17:42:07.690-07:002009-08-16T17:42:07.690-07:00My inital choice would be an older mare, but consi...My inital choice would be an older mare, but considering that we currently have 5 mares and one old geezer maybe a gelding would be a nice change.

I believe that yearlings are more likely to be adopted first, so I have a tendancy to choose the ones less likely to find a home.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14868403.post-90347474922043135452009-08-16T16:58:54.426-07:002009-08-16T16:58:54.426-07:00Probably a yearling gelding as well. Plus mares when they come into season are not pretty or friendly in my experience :DMiss Penelope.https://www.blogger.com/profile/00667213292076090145noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14868403.post-23274353481251310542009-08-16T12:13:24.292-07:002009-08-16T12:13:24.292-07:00I would take an older mare.
