Sheep, for instance can recognise both human and sheep faces better than humans can, probly because social life is super important to sheep. Setter dogs rate comparatively low in intelligence tests because those tests are geared to certain types of intelligence, just like IQ testing for humans is. However, when you test Setters for problem-solving skills, they come very high, because that is the sort of intelligence you need to be an independent bird-dog working far away from your handler. There are so may kinds of intelligence. It is a very interesting thing to think about and applies to people too.
