The day started out a little iffy. Two hours before dawn I started the truck, shifted into gear, turned on my headlights and... no headlights. Luckily John had one ready to install, and he had us on the road pretty quick. One headlight is better than none, for sure.
It was an uneventful trip and we even got there a little early. So we went to Starbucks and then did some walking. The river was like glass today.
It took him a while to unload onto the asphalt, since he had never seen any such thing before. But we got him loaded and went on our way. 100 miles later we stopped for a breather.
We were on the road 12 hours but it was totally worth it. He's just as cool as I had hoped.
This pic isn't the greatest - the light was fading fast. But I think Dyno's jealous face in the background is hilarious. He really wants some food too! But he doesn't really eat hay and his mush was still in the house.
I don't know how easy it is to see, but he has the same Roman knob on his nose that Tonka did, although maybe not as pronounced.
It makes for a good handle when you want to pull his face over and kiss his nose.
Nice bum.
This is my only full body pic that didn't end up all blurry. I think he's very handsome. I know he has flaws (especially that neck) but I love him anyway. I can't wait to trim his hooves and put a little weight on him. I guess he was obese and they worked hard to get him thinner, but I like them with a little more padding.
I didn't even realize until I met him how much he looked like Willow, my first horse. She was a mustang from Nevada. She was smaller than he is, but had the same colored face and pretty eyes, and the 4 socks. I know I have a better pic of her somewhere but this will have to do for now.
I'm exhausted, and I have to get up early tomorrow, so I'm signing off now. Hopefully tonight I can sleep! I haven't slept much the last couple nights, with all the anticipation.
Horses with his body type seem to look better with some extra padding. Glad to hear he made it home safely.
ReplyDeleteWhen do we get to learn the long-awaited name?
Congratulations! He's home! Now the fun begins!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! So very exciting and I am sure you can't wait to start working with him! He is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI liked him from the very first pics you posted but like you was put off by the word that he was mean to other horses. I'm glad he isn't and especially glad that he has found his way to you after all. I think he is a spunk!
ReplyDeleteA very fine looking horse - and he seems pretty calm and content. So glad you decided to get him. What will you call him?
ReplyDeleteHe looks like he's going to be wonderful. I agree, he's got the big bones that look good with more weight.
ReplyDeleteAs others said....how long before we find out his name? Will you be waiting to get to know him first?
ReplyDeleteI love how calm he looks in all the pictures. I know that once you get to working with him and get him all "buff" he is going to be more gorgeous than he already is.
I am so excited for you.
