We were passed by 3 ATVs loaded with baying hounds. No biggie. He was watchful but not reactive. What a guy. He is not as nonchalant about everything as Pedro was. Pedro didn't have a care in the world. He owned those woods. Buster does have a worrier in there. But he doesn't let it take over very often. Donkeys' sense of self preservation is so much more cautious than that of a horse.

Interesting observation -- do you suppose in general a horse's instinct to flee overrules assessing danger, and that donkeys, being less reactive or less "flighty" can process information with more thoroughly? I only know horses, and mine is usually quite deliberate (unless the wind is blowing, or its dinner time, or she's in a large group, or ....).
Yeah, donkeys usually think before they react in most situations, which is why people call them stubborn. They think before they decide to get in a trailer, cross a bridge, get their feeties wet, etc. But luckily they also think before they bolt. Most of the time.
