Bad News, GOOD News

I'll start with the bad to get it behind us. My husband found out on Tuesday that he's being laid off. There is a severance package, so it's not quite time to panic yet. I'm glad I have my winter's supply of hay in the barn.

Two good newses are better than one bad news.

I rode Bella yesterday and she was sound! I love that mare. I'm going to keep cautiously building on that start.

Also, I got a new horse last weekend. He is amazing. I love working with him. I'm like a teenager with a new boyfriend.
Before I brought him home
He's an 8 year old curly horse with something special in his soul. Yeah, I may be crazy, but there you have it. He is something else. I hear that curlies are different, but this is really... Wow. Deepness. Reaching out. Connecting.

He came with the name Evander, after Evander Holyfield because he's missing part of his ear. I don't like when they're named after a bad experience or physical "flaw," so that of course had to go.

I made lists, looked up Native American words and names to honor his heritage. I considered Russian names but it turns out the curlies here aren't related to the Bashkir horses.

Wednesday while I was sitting on the mounting block watching him eat, it came to me. I said, "Duncan," and he took a step toward me, laid his head in my hand, and closed his eyes. It was profound.

So, Duncan is my new wonderful love. I'll write plenty more about him later. Right now I'm ready for bed.

Oh man, Andrea, that sucks about your husband. Hopefully he'll be able to find new employment quickly. Congrats on the new horse. I think it was appropriate to rename him since he was named for a physical flaw and I like the name Duncan. Here's to many happinesses together. And that's awesome that Bella is doing well.

I like the new name, it's strong, but sweet, and he already approved. I'm thrilled about Bella. What a breakthrough! ! You'll have a lot of options for riding now. :)

Sorry about the layoff though.

I kind of wish I'd get laid off right now since my job has turned into the pit of hell. I hope your husband finds something new and good.

Congratulations on both Bella and Duncan, he sure looks like a keeper!

My husband kind of feels that way about it. Of course I'm worried about the money aspect, but I think he'll find himself happier. His counterpart at work is super jealous she didn't get laid off instead of him.

I hope you job becomes more bearable soon, or that you can find something better.

Thanks! I think he'll find something soon. He's had several offers but unfortunately not in our area.

I am really having fun with Duncan and Bella.

I was super elated when I rode her and she was sound, but then I got to thinking maybe I shouldn't have gotten a 3rd horse. He needed a new situation though, and there's nothing wrong with having an extra horse to trade out when one is lame, or to pack on a long trip... I'm going to have fun with both of them. :)
